Your Weight and your Thyroid

Your Weight and your Thyroid

This powerful gland is located in your neck, actually, just below your Adam’s Apple, and you can feel it if you try. It is an amazing gland that produces four differnt compounds and one is the hormone called thyroid. Known to doctors as T4 or thyroxin, it runs throughout your whole body as if effects every cell that you have.
Although it doesn’t many things for your body, the primary job is to regulate metabolism. How does it do this you ask? By affecting every cell in the inside called the mitochondria. It is your metabolic rate that is the deciding factor as to you gaining weight or loosing weight. Heat is generated by your metabolic activity, so the higher your metabolic rate, the warmer you are. One easy way to test your metabolic status is by checking your body temperature, which then tells you your thyroid status. A low body temperature will almost certainly translate into a low thyroid function.
With a thyroid that is not working like it should, you will notice frequently cold hands and feet, you will need blankets to sleep in the summer time and also you will have muscle cramps at night. Worst of all, you will gain weight.
