Prostate Cancer Information

Cancer comes in many forms and can effect any part of the body.  For men, the most common type of cancer is skin cancer with second in line being prostate cancer.  If you were to check the statistics for prostate cancer you would discover that age is the common risk factor for prostate cancer.  Sixty-three percent of men over the age of sixty-five will develop this form of cancer.

The cause is unknown and like other cancers, early detection is the goal. With treatment given early in the diagnosis, the chance for it to spread to other body parts are lessened.  The prostate gland produces a protein called prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and testing for this will tell your doctor the level of PSA in your blood system.

Any man over the age of fifty would be wise to have annual PSA testing done. He can also order his own PSA test online and have this blood test done confidentially.  The results will be sent to his email address and then it is his choice to share the finding with his doctor or not.  This testing can be done earlier, such as the age of forty, if he has been told he is at a higher risk.
